SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Greene County sheriff's deputies have arrested two teenagers and have two other suspects for an assault just outside the city last week. They've also recovered four stolen motorcycles from two recent burglaries in western Springfield.
A car driver on Farm Road 156 came upon three men on small motorcycles obstructing the roadway on July 19. The driver couldn't avoid striking one of the motorcycles, causing him to lose control and crash his car off road. The driver was then assaulted and robbed by the three men. The driver was treated at a hospital for injuries from the accident and assault.
The three attackers fled on foot before deputies arrived, leaving their motorcycles at the scene. Deputies found that those three motorcycles were stolen.
A charge of first-degree tampering -- a common charge in Missouri for a stolen vehicle -- is filed against Marvin Maples, 17. Maples posted a $4,900 bond. A 16-year-old boy is in the Greene County Juvenile detention facility. All of the suspects in this robbery and burglary investigation live in the Springfield area.
